Our customers showcase their creativity at our first exhibition of works.
In celebration of our second year in business, we, at Tamar View Miniatures, hosted a weekend of miniatures at the Tamar View Restaurant. Customers were invited to put their dolls houses on show to share with others. So often, amazing creations are seen only behind closed doors. It was lovely to see the results of all the hard work and talent before our eyes which, up to now, we had heard about in the shop when sharing enthusiasm. Faces glowed as treasured displays evolved during the afternoon of setting up. Liskeard Miniature Group displayed some delightful miniature creations.
We invited Plymouth G scale garden railway group to exhibit with us and the action packed weekend was a real success.
Here are a few snap shots of the event to share with you...
Rose Widdecombe lent us her Triang house for the occassion. It has been in the family since she was a child and is complete with original furniture. Lovely!
Marion had this pub made for her and added the complete interior to her own design.
The story of her making of the Britania Inn will soon be detailed in a feature on this web site.
Here's the inside...
Roz's dolls house is a work in progress. Beautifully internally decorated this is a fine example of how the "Dartmouth" dolls house can look.
Gordon and Beverley Weeks shared with us their 3rd creation... Pippin Cottage painted in cream with the chimney moved to the other side to match up with the living room fireplace. It is so cosy you could move in! She's got the bug as Beverley is thinking ahead to her next house...
This cottage is the first of three original propertied created from scratch by Fred and Shirley. Fred has Parkinson's Disease which he overcomes to produce unique dolls houses for members of his family. The dolls house hobby is very much a family affair as his wife, Shirley furnishes the houses with hand made furniture from balsa wood and other materials.
This cottage is their daughters house which is a replica of their family home. It is a work in progress and all features are reflecting the natural feel of their home.
Shirley's bungalow can be viewed and opened from all sides. The upstairs seen here is open to view bathroom and bedroom including the toilet roll made from a cigarette filter. Note the evidence of the continual top ups of refreshments to get us through the weekend!
Another view of the back of the bungalow showing the garden terrace complete with archway and patio set and scooter. All we need now is the weather...
An inside shot of the lounge...all hand made furniture from scratch. Note the TV screen which Fred made from a car wing mirror. Amazing creativity!
The side opened up to showcase the kitchen and utility room.
This Georgian house, the third of Freds handy work, was made for another family member ( how lucky are they!) Shirley made the conservatory on the roof garden.
Inside is another work in progress showing his hand made spiral staircase to access the roof garden.
Next year...if we have another exhibition...watch this space as I believe that Fred is still busy in his workshop.
Shots of Mrs Leightons table full to brimming of food, all hand made, a water closet and garage sale made by Liskeard miniature group.
A " mouse house" in intricate detail from another member of the Liskeard group.
Alice in Wonderland
A street scene with people gathered to look at the toy shop and fruit stall, all hand made by Ailsa, an accomplished miniaturist with exquisite displays.
Further along the street with more to see...
Ailsa's kitchen scene with a real story to tell...so detailed it deserves a feature of it's own so I hope to see Ailsa soon to feature the whole story and provide more detailed shots...watch this space.
We hope you enjoyed looking at some of the items in our display. The many people who came certainly did and it proved an inspiration to all.
Thanks to all who put in so much work on miniatures, houses and supporting during the event it'self.
If you are local (or not) and would like to feature your work at our next event do contact us.
We meet monthly on a Saturday afternoon to "enthuse" and the Liskeard Miniature Group meet the first Tuesday of the month in the evening.
Thanks for looking.
